San Miguel Secures Second Win of PBA Season 49 with Dominant Performance Over Blackwater
MANILA — The San Miguel Beermen secured their second victory in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup with a commanding performance in the second half, defeating the Blackwater Bossing 128-108 at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.
Jordan Adams Leads the Charge
Jordan Adams spearheaded San Miguel’s attack with a stellar 50-point performance, complemented by 11 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Adams was particularly explosive in the third quarter, scoring 16 of his 50 points during this critical period.
Coach’s Remarks on Team Play
“We did not play San Miguel basketball in the first half,” remarked SMB head coach Jorge Gallent during the postgame press conference. “We were not sharing the ball, and everyone was focused on scoring individually. That’s not how we want to play.”
Supporting Cast Contributions
Supporting Adams’ dominant display, CJ Perez added 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while June Mar Fajardo contributed 13 points. Jericho Cruz chipped in with 12 points, and both Kris Rosales and Vic Manuel finished with 10 points each.
Turning Point
San Miguel initially trailed by 10 points early in the third quarter, 63-53. However, the Beermen found their rhythm later in the quarter, launching a 16-2 run capped off by a four-point play from Perez, which shifted the momentum in their favor.
Fajardo’s Crucial Three-Pointer
June Mar Fajardo played a pivotal role, hitting a three-pointer in the fourth quarter that extended their lead to 21 points. This shot solidified San Miguel’s unbeaten start to the season at 2-0, while handing Blackwater their third consecutive loss.
Blackwater’s Struggles
For Blackwater, Troy Rosario led the team with 25 points and six rebounds, but his efforts were not enough to keep the game competitive. The Bossing played without an import following their split with Ricky Ledo. Sedrick Barefield added 16 points, while James Kwekuteye, Jewel Ponferada, and Christian David contributed 11, 11, and 10 points, respectively.
